The University of Applied Sciences in Saarbrücken currently offers 28 degree programmes. Study programmes are highly structured with students often learning in small groups. Excellent supervision and close contact to the more than 100 members of the professorial staff are distinctive features of academic life at the university. Students have access to modern, well-equipped laboratories, lecture halls and seminar rooms. The university places considerable emphasis on high-quality, practically-focused teaching that is closely meshed with real social, business and industrial applications. This enables the university to identify at an early stage the changing needs of today's working environment and to adapt and modify its teaching curricula accordingly.

In the winter semester 2008/09, there were 4052 students enrolled at the HTW, of which 801 were international students from more than 50 different countries.
